About Frilford Heath Golf Club

Frilford Golf Club, nestled just seven miles from Oxford, retains the tranquil charm noted by Bernard Darwin in his 1910 book, “The Golf Courses of the British Isles.” Darwin praised its rural setting, likening it to an oasis amidst mud. Today, while roads may be busier, Frilford Golf Club remains serene, boasting three courses: the Red, Green, and Blue, totaling 54 holes. Designed by J.H. Taylor in 1908, with modifications by club professional J.H. Turner in the 1920s, the Red course still shines as the club’s premier layout. Despite alterations to accommodate the development of the Blue course in the 1990s, the Red course maintains its reputation. Challenging and balanced, the Red course spans over 7,000 yards from the tips, featuring notable par fours like the 5th, 7th, and 8th, each measuring well over 400 yards.

The signature 9th hole, a picturesque par three over a pond, demands precision off the tee. The back nine unfolds with the longest hole on the course and a string of formidable par fours to conclude. Frilford’s quality and sandy soil allow year-round play, with greens renowned for their excellence. The club also actively promotes the regeneration of heathland flora. Darwin’s sentiment still rings true today—Frilford Golf Club is not only a place of challenging golf but also a haven where the joy of the game is savored, beckoning players to return time and again. As well as golf Frilford Heath offers conference and events space and a relaxed dining experience. The fully stocked golf shop and performance centre with a driving range are available for beginners or experienced golfers to help them improve.
