Can we compete in an Amazon world and not compromise on ethics? With Renee Watson of The Curiosity Box
Building a successful business is hard, building one that’s ethical is impossible. That’s the conclusion I came to in 2019 when, after 3 years of nurturing Curiosity Box, a customer told me our boxes were too expensive.
I was ready to throw in the towel. I cannot lead a business that doesn’t pay people properly, that prioritises quick financial gains over long term impact and that stomps dirty footprints all over our planet. It just isn’t in me.
So I’ve picked at supply chains like a scab, I’ve refused to compromise on single use plastic and prioritised building relationships will local businesses over cheap manufacturing abroad. Amazon is crazy good at what it does, it has reset consumer expectations and engulfed a phenomenal market share.
It even claims to be ethical. So are my efforts worth it? Come help me find out!
