Oxford Law Firm Spreads Festive Cheer to Children in Care this Christmas
A Secret Santa scheme run by Oxford law firm Blake Morgan has given almost 900 disadvantaged children in the local area a Christmas present this year.
In its fifth year, the scheme encourages local businesses and individuals to donate presents to disadvantaged children, which are then distributed to children in need by Oxford Social Services, West Berkshire Social Services and Children Heard and Seen, a charity providing support to children affected by parental imprisonment. This year the firm’s fundraising received an extra boost with a £1000 donation from Cala Homes which was used to purchase additional gifts for looked after children in the community.
Local businesses such as Breckon and Breckon, Oxford University Press and The Clancy Group to name a few took part. Many Oxford residents and Blake Morgan staff also donated gifts. Those taking part were given gift tags which show the first names, ages and gift ideas for the children.
A reception was held on 13 December at Blake Morgan’s offices at Seacourt Tower where the presents were collected and counted before being passed on to Social Services in time for Christmas.
Blake Morgan partner, William Downing said: “The festive season can be an extremely difficult time for disadvantaged children and we hope that these gifts will help put a smile on their faces. Once again, we are overwhelmed by the support of volunteers and the number of donations from Oxfordshire businesses and people. We really can’t express enough thanks to everyone that took part this year.”
Andrew Aldridge, Land Director for CALA Homes, comments: “As a community-minded company, we are committed to making a positive contribution to the localities in which we build; not just now but for years to come. We are very proud to be supporting Blake Morgan’s Secret Santa initiative. By giving these disadvantaged children a Christmas present, they will know that someone in their locality is thinking of them and that they are cherished.”
Businesses interested in taking part in future Secret Santa initiatives can email emily.dyas@blakemorgan.co.uk to register their interest.
