80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS FOR OXFORD PARTNER AFTER 46 YEARS AT LAW FIRM
This month an institution in the Oxford legal sector, John Deech, has celebrated his 80th birthday, which comes as he remains an active full-time partner at law firm Blake Morgan. John’s colleagues threw him a surprise birthday party – reflecting on the almost 50 years he has worked at the firm and marking this milestone.
John is a distinguished and experienced property lawyer, and an important part of Blake Morgan’s property team, which is led from its Oxford office.
His professional expertise is wide-ranging covering every aspect of property law and every type of property from agricultural land through commercial and development land, both as a transactional lawyer and in dispute resolution. Over his years of practice he has worked, and continues to act, for many major Oxford colleges and businesses and has been closely involved in development of the Oxford Science Park since its inception 35 years ago. His broad knowledge also extends to the areas of commercial law, education law, charity law, trusts and taxation, mergers and acquisitions, and Freedom of Information. He has been a pioneer in the development of the use of IT in law practices having been instrumental in the firm being the first in the country to adopt document management almost 30 years ago.
John has worked for the firm now known as Blake Morgan since 1977, and has been in Oxford for even longer – earning a D. Phil in Physics from Oriel College in 1968 before his transition to the law almost 10 years later. He still works full time at the firm.
Richard Wade, partner in Blake Morgan’s Oxford office, said: “John has been a friend and valued colleague for many years, and we were delighted to take the opportunity to mark this amazing milestone. If anything proves age is just a number when you’re doing what you enjoy, it’s John, and his tireless and invaluable contributions are something I know our clients and colleagues appreciate hugely every day.”
