A team of 11 participants from the law firm Blake Morgan are gearing up to abseil down the AcelorMittal Orbit in London this Saturday (September 30).
The teams, based across the firm’s Oxford and London offices will be taking on the challenge to raise funds for charities local to their offices; Restore and The Royal Marsden.
AcelorMittal Orbit is the “highest freefall abseil on the UK’s tallest sculpture” situated in the centre of the Olympic Park. The structure is 262 feet above the city and a known abseiling venue.
Cathryn Culverhouse, Solicitor in the firm’s Oxford office and leading on the event, said: “In Oxford, we have been supporting Restore for 18 months now. Restore is an Oxfordshire-based mental health charity that supports people in taking control of their recovery, developing their skills and leading meaningful lives. The work they do to help individuals whose mental health has a substantial effect on their day to day lives is invaluable and it is truly admiring to see the difference they make.
“For many of us, this abseil will be the biggest challenge we’ve undertaken and abseiling from this height will certainly help some of us face one or two fears. But completing the abseil and raising much-needed funds to help Restore continue to improve the lives of those who need it will be the true reward.”
Lisa Hanton, from Restore, said: “We were delighted to have been chosen as Blake Morgan’s office charity and really admire the lengths (or heights!) they are going to, to raise much-needed funds for those suffering with mental ill health. This fundraising will go towards supporting people in their recovery, developing skills and to lead meaningful lives.”

The Oxford office have so far held a number of events including raffles and bake sales to raise money for Restore. The London office are also in training to cycle from Brighton to Paris for The Royal Marsden later this year.
Each office at Blake Morgan sponsor a local charity for a period of two years and commit to raising funds in various ways throughout the relationship. From sporting events to car washes, and earlier this year a wall climb that totalled a height taller than Mount Everest.
