Fostering a Workplace Culture with Claire Croft
B4 Members gathered at B4 HQ for a thought-provoking session with culture specialist and B4 Platinum Member, Claire Croft, exploring what it really takes to build a workplace where people and business deliver meaningful impact. From the outset, Claire reframed “culture” away from perks and gimmicks—“bean bags and beer fridges” don’t make a culture—and toward the everyday decisions, behaviours, and systems that shape how work gets done.
Claire opened by decoding culture and sharing a clear framework that helps leaders focus their attention where it matters most: purpose and values, leadership behaviours, people practices, and the rituals that reinforce them. The discussion quickly moved from theory to practice, with members candidly comparing challenges—from hybrid friction and communication gaps to the realities of scaling teams while protecting psychological safety and performance.
“It was great to spend time with the B4 community exploring an aspect of business which, during these challenging times, often drops down the priority list. I thoroughly enjoyed the open and robust discussion we had and left having both shared and gained insights,” said Claire Croft.
B4’s CEO Richard Rosser reflected on the energy and candour in the room:
“Claire chaired a brilliant discussion around workplace culture and it was fascinating to hear the various challenges our Members have in their respective workplaces.”
Key takeaways
- Culture is built, not bought: It’s the consistent alignment of actions and systems—not office perks—that drives impact.
- Leaders go first: Visible, values-led behaviour from leadership sets the tone for trust and accountability.
- Focus on clarity and cadence: Simple, repeatable rituals (check-ins, feedback loops, learning huddles) turn intent into habit.
- Measure what matters: Track sentiment, behaviour, and outcomes to understand whether culture is enabling performance.
