Five days. Five gatherings. One consistent theme: purposeful collaboration.
Last week was one of those weeks that reminds me exactly why B4 exists.
Monday – Impact Session with Be Free Young Carers (Soha Housing)
Our third Oxfordshire Business Summit Impact Session focused on Shared Prosperity: Business, Charity and the Future Workforce of the Oxfordshire–Cambridge Corridor.
Huge thanks to Sabiene North (Be Free Young Carers) and our outstanding panel: Gavin Jones (Planet IT), Ben Drabble (TRAIN), Susie Besant (One-Eighty) and Angus Horner.
The conversation was honest and, at times, sobering. We explored:
• Why need still exists in one of the UK’s wealthiest counties
• The pressures facing young carers and families
• How fragmented systems allow young people to fall between gaps
• Why early intervention and long-term thinking are essential
But most importantly, we moved beyond the traditional “business funds charity” model and talked about something more powerful:
👉 Strategic partnerships
👉 Shared expertise, not just sponsorship
👉 Long-term accountability
👉 Treating charities as equal partners
If we want a resilient future workforce across the OxCam Corridor, business success and community wellbeing must be part of the same conversation.
Tuesday – First B4 Board Meeting of 2026
We held our first Board Meeting of the year and were delighted to welcome our newest board recruits, Claire Croft and Richard Murray.
Fresh thinking, strong experience and clear alignment with B4’s long-term ambitions — we’re excited about what lies ahead and can’t wait to reveal our new website.
Strong governance underpins strong growth. The year has started with real momentum.
Wednesday – B4 Platinum Breakfast at Blenheim Palace
In a spectacular setting, Ian Barrett, CEO of Earth Trust, delivered a compelling message: Nature is not a CSR bolt-on. It is a business strategy.
His presentation, “Naturally Good for Business,” demonstrated how purpose-led partnerships strengthen people, performance and place Naturally Good for Business.
Some standout insights:
• 71% of employees consider environmental impact when evaluating an employer
• Purpose is now a financial necessity, not a luxury
• Companies investing in nature are seeing measurable ROI
From global brands to local impact at Wittenham Clumps (1,300 acres, 200,000 annual visitors), the message was clear:
When companies act locally, employees can see it, touch it, feel it.
That visibility builds pride. And pride builds performance.
Thursday – Moonshot Factory
We then shifted gears with Moonshot Factory — a programme designed by the brilliant Mark Zwinderman to challenge thinking, stretch ambition and encourage bold, scalable ideas.
Moonshot conversations are different. They’re about possibility. About long-term transformation. About stepping outside incremental thinking.
The energy in the room was forward-looking and ambitious — exactly what our region needs as it navigates growth, technology and global competition.

Friday – B4 Members Lunch at Brasserie Blanc
We finished the week in classic B4 style — connection, conversation and celebration.
Congratulations again to:
👏 Jayson Abbott on launching a successful new hospitality arm
👏 Jenny Harvey on reaching 9 years solo
👏 Justin Merritt on securing 3 points away on Saturday
👏 Simon Robinson on completing 6 deals
Business performance matters. But so does community. And celebrating wins together matters too.
Across the week we covered:
• Social infrastructure
• Governance and leadership
• Nature-positive growth
• Innovation and big thinking
• Local partnerships
• Celebrating success
Different rooms. Different audiences. One shared belief:
Stronger businesses build stronger communities. And stronger communities sustain stronger businesses.
Thank you to everyone who joined us last week. If you’d like to be part of the next conversation, I’d love to hear from you. Contact me at richard@b4-business.com
