Bus workers support Ukrainian humanitarian effort

Oxfordshire’s top bus operators are encouraging colleagues to wear the colours of the Ukrainian flag to work to help raise funds for the nation’s relief mission.

Bus drivers and their colleagues at Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel and Carousel Buses are invited to wear yellow and blue garments to work this weekend (2nd and 3rd of April). To help with the humanitarian effort the companies have asked colleagues who wish to take part to donate £2. It has set up a fundraising page for colleagues to donate to campaign. All funds raised will be match funded by its parent company Go-Ahead Group and donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel and Carousel Buses Managing Director said: “A lot of our colleagues have expressed a desire to do something to support Ukrainians at this time. We felt this was a good way to peacefully show support and humanity. So, if any of our customers see some of our colleagues dressed in yellow or blue and wonder why they’re not wearing their uniform it’s in support of the people of Ukraine.

“We are proud of our multicultural diversity and have colleagues and customers from all over Europe. We understand the best way to provide tangible relief aid is via the Disasters Emergency Committee and so any funds raised will be donated there and kindly match-funded by Go-Ahead Group.”

Earlier this month Oxford Bus Company announced it is providing free travel to Ukrainian refugees arriving in the UK on its Airline service. The luxury airline coach service provides connectivity between

Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and Oxford and High Wycombe.

Passengers need to show a valid Ukrainian passport to obtain free travel on the Airline service. Currently Ukrainians must have a valid visa to enter the UK, in line with government policy on immigration, along with their passport.
