A Level Results Day: Students encouraged to consider career options by construction specialists The M&M Group
Students receiving their A Level results in Oxfordshire who remain unsure on their next steps are being asked to consider a career in construction by one of the county’s top employers.
The M&M Group employs 190 staff and specialises in demolition, asbestos removal, land remediation, waste management and recycling through its three entities – Maylarch Environmental Ltd, M&M Zero and M&M Waste Solutions.
The business is actively recruiting new staff to support its operation with roles in customer service, accounts, HR and compliance, marketing, driving, plus recycling and machine operator roles available and apprenticeships.
Full training and continuous personal development opportunities are available to all staff from its headquarters in Cassington.
Pawel Stapor joined the business in 2007 in a junior role and is now the group’s Weighbridge Operator after achieving a Level 4 High Risk Operator qualification.
He described his work as rewarding and varied in a fun and supportive environment and wants those unsure on their next steps to consider education and career options which might not have crossed their mind.
“Working for the M&M Group was supposed to be a temporary thing for me,” said Pawel. “But 18 years later, I’m so pleased to still be part of the team.
“It’s a great place to work, with a fantastic atmosphere.
“Personally, I’ve found there are no ceilings either which as a young, enthusiastic, worker is a great position to be in.
“Even with my role of 15 years as a Weighbridge Operator, I still run the production on our sorting station and will assist with M&M Zero when required.
“It’s varied work, and I enjoy it.”
Founded in 1972 as M&M Transport with a small team and just three vehicles, the business reshaped its operation by acquiring local skip companies and at the beginning of the millennium rebranded as M&M Waste Solutions.
By 2018, award-winning environmental services firm Maylarch joined the group and in 2021 M&M Zero was established as part of an ongoing commitment to champion sustainability and recycling.
Michael Mullan joined Maylarch in 2017, as an Asbestos Removal Apprentice. In 2020 he completed his NVQ to become a Contracts Manager. Today, he is now a Senior Contracts Manager.
“Asbestos removal was completely new to me when I joined Maylarch,” said Michael.
“With the team’s support and guidance, it’s now what I specialise in and have a skilled group of 12 colleagues who report to me across some of our biggest projects.
“It’s a big responsibility, but we’re a close-knit group which counts for everything and ensures our work is high quality, sustainable and most importantly safe.”
Group Managing Director Rob Fluckiger has worked in the waste industry since graduating from university.
He said the sector offers employees far more than hard hats and high-vis jackets.
“When people think of construction, most only consider the hands-on roles the industry supports,” said Rob. “In reality, our operation is far bigger while also supporting those on the ground jobs which are critical to our growth.
“Having a strong support network is essential to the development of any person, or organisation.
“It’s what we strive to achieve at The M&M Group by attracting, developing and retaining the right people who share our enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced and growing sector.
“We’d love to hear from anyone who is considering their options following A Level results day and would like to learn more about the career opportunities we have available.”
