Programme announced for 2022 Creative Industries Festival
Oxford Brookes has announced the programme for the second International Creative Industries Festival, which takes place online from 21 March. The theme for this year’s Festival is ‘Creative industries for a better society’.
Working with Oxford City Council, Creative UK, OxLEP (Oxford Local Enterprise Partnership) and creative communities, the Festival will feature talks and discussions looking at the role of the creative industries in improving people’s daily lives.
Bringing together industry figures, students, members of the public and Oxford Brookes researchers, the event aims to explore how to achieve a better society with the creative industries at its centre, and will celebrate the role of universities as spaces of freedom of expression and creativity.
Sessions include: ‘The city is our gallery: The power of street art in the community’ an open discussion on how street art is evolving within our society and specifically in Oxford City. Also on the programme is a panel discussion entitled ‘How can we embrace the creative and cultural sectors as a driver for high street rejuvenation?’, featuring John Newbigin OBE, Ambassador for the Creative Industries for the Mayor of London and Paul Hobson, Director of Modern Art Oxford.
Dr Hannah Yelin, Creative Industries Network lead at Oxford Brookes University, said: “We will be celebrating art, museums, film, photography, music, media, celebrity culture, poetry, storytelling and immersive tech and look at creative approaches to tackling problems like climate change, inequality and discrimination.
“It promises to be an informative and enjoyable week of sessions with something for everybody.”
