James Pitt – Partner, Head of Audit & Assurance

James joined James Cowper Kreston in 2004 as a work placement student before returning post-degree to train as a Chartered Accountant. After gaining experience with a Big Four firm, he rejoined James Cowper Kreston in 2010 and became Partner in 2017.

James has extensive experience across a wide range of sectors, with particular emphasis on technology and manufacturing, advising start-ups, owner-managed businesses, international groups and listed companies. His advisory work includes group restructures, exit strategies and international expansion, working closely with the Kreston Global network.

Michael Atkinson – Director

Michael joined James Cowper Kreston in 2021 after 11 years at Big Four firms, working with privately owned businesses in the UK and internationally. Based between Oxford and Reading, he specialises in private equity portfolio companies and large owner-managed businesses.

With significant transaction experience — including buy-side and sell-side engagements — Michael works closely with the firm’s Corporate Finance team to deliver holistic, commercial tax advice, helping clients navigate complex transactions and identify valuable opportunities.

Sam Britton – Director, Audit & Assurance

Sam joined James Cowper Kreston in 2015 through the graduate trainee scheme and was promoted to Audit & Assurance Director in 2024. A Fellow of the ACCA, Sam works with a broad portfolio of UK and international clients, from start-ups to listed entities.

He has particular expertise in group audits and specialises in sectors including manufacturing, technology and biotech, providing timely, reliable advice that supports clients throughout the year and helps them maximise their potential.
