Leading national law firm Freeths LLP has bolstered its insurance offering with the appointment of Dispute Resolution Partner, Nick Sutton in London. He joins from Fletcher Day and previously spent over 10 years at DWF.
With almost 15 years’ experience, Nick specialises in legal risk management, dispute resolution, commercial litigation and arbitration in insurance law.
Over the course of his career, Nick has built strong contentious insurance claims practice acting for the wider insurance market and corporate self-insureds.
In addition to his insurance coverage practice, he regularly advises on high value commercial contract risk management projects, breach of contract claims and shareholder disputes.
Nick’s core sector focus is retail, leisure and hospitality, warehousing, transport and logistics, as well as accounting, audit and business consultancy.
Over the last two years, Nick has been at the leading edge of pursuing Covid-19 business interruption insurance claims on behalf of policyholders, which has resulted in a number of high value settlements and litigated coverage disputes, some of which are ongoing.
At Freeths, Nick will work alongside the National Dispute Resolution Team to strengthen its insurance offering for clients across the UK.
Commenting on the appointment, James Hartley, National Head of Dispute Resolution said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Nick to the team. With a wealth of experience in the market, he will bring valuable litigation expertise and specialist insurance law knowledge to Freeths’ existing client base and bring across with him a number of new key clients in several core sectors, including life sciences, hospitality and retail.
“Well known for his ability to identify and focus on sensitive commercial objectives and reconcile these with a technical legal framework to achieve the most financially favourable and reputationally attractive outcome for his clients, Nick will be a valuable addition to the firm.”
Nick Sutton added: “Everyone I’ve met at Freeths so far has made me feel incredibly welcome and I can’t wait to start working with such a talented, energised and collegiate team.
“It’s a very exciting time to be joining such a highly regarded litigation team and it’s an honour to be given the opportunity to contribute to further growth and expansion of the firm.
“The firm’s full-service offering and broad skillset will enhance the support and advice that I am able to provide my clients in a way that will lead to the best possible results for them.”
