A New Practical Guide to IT Law Released, Co-Authored by Andrew Katz
Renowned Technology Lawyer, expert speaker and author, Andrew Katz has co-authored the newly published book β A Practical Guide to IT Law, alongside his colleagues in the Technology Team at Moorcrofts.
It is a comprehensive guide for management professionals, which discusses the IT-related legal issues faced by businesses on a daily basis. Legal concepts and terminology are notoriously difficult for non-specialists, but this book explains in plain English the relevant legal frameworks and gives examples from actual cases. New material in this edition include chapters on GDPR, cyber security, cloud computing contracts and Agile. Andrew and his team provided content on open source, GDPR and joint ventures: collectively the largest contribution from one organisation to the book. His colleagues contributing to the book include Tim Astley, Usha Guness, Jiri Svorc, Dr Michaela MacDonald, Chris McCormick and George Johnson.
Now in its third edition, the book was published by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and edited by Jeremy Holt and Jeremy Newton.
Andrew, Moorcrofts Joint Managing Partner, Head of Technology and Co-Author, said:
βGiven the ever changing nature of technology, the law related to it has recently been significantly updated to remain relevant for the next phase of the digital age. Over the past couple of years, we have witnessed notable developments in many technology domains, including open source software and personal data protection, both of which the book discusses at great length. Written in plain English, the book can easily be read by legal practitioners as well as IT professionals, managers and students, and thus serves as a valuable reference material for many.β
Prior to becoming a Lawyer, Andrew, was a software engineer and developer, releasing software under the GPL. Now Moorcrofts Joint Managing Partner and Head of Technology, Andrew has practised technology law for nearly 30 years. In that time, he has become one of the UKβs leading free and open source software lawyers and renowned worldwide for his specialisms in Open Hardware.
The book is available and can be purchased via the BCS Bookshop.
