Freeths advises on development of Europe’s largest ever solar farm

The Botley West Solar Farm aims to generate enough power for up to 330,000 homes

National law firm Freeths has advised Photovolt Development Partners (PVDP) on its development of Europe’s largest ever solar farm, based in Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

Following special government classification, which can be applied for in 2023, the Botley West Solar Farm would aim to generate enough power for up to 330,000 homes.

Commenting on the impact of the project, Michael Bray, Real Estate Partner at Freeths LLP said: “This Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project represents another leap forward for the UK’s clean energy pipeline, being the largest solar farm ever to be constructed in Europe, further decreasing the UK’s reliance on imported energy and helping to plug the gap being left by coal generation and the loss of baseload nuclear power over the coming years.  The Freeths clean energy team are thrilled to be advising PVDP on this ambitious project”

The first public consultation on the proposals for the site, which is due to be built north of Woodstock, west of Kidlington and west of Botley, was launched on Thursday 3 November and will run until 15 December.

This proposed solar farm intends to generate about 840MW of power to the National Grid.

The Freeths legal team is being led by Partner Michael Bray, supported by Energy Partner Clare King, Managing Associate Coralie McKeivor, Senior Associate Danielle Sinclair, Associates Hayley Bunt, Noah Bachoco and Elliot Thorne.
