City Sightseeing Oxford launch walking tours with a difference for visitors

Visitors to Oxford can now discover the city’s hidden gems via flexible “hop-on, hop-off” walking tours.

City Sightseeing Oxford has partnered with VOX City Walks, to offer tourists the ultimate flexible explorations of the city of dreaming spires. Passengers on City Sightseeing Oxford’s open top bus tours can hop on and off their journey to look at attractions and be accompanied by a local expert to learn more about the city’s top attractions, or further explore via self-guided tours on the Vox City app.

The self-guide app has audio commentary in multiple languages and suggests walking itineraries to help people get the most out of their visit to Oxford. Those participating in guided walks can drop out of the tour at any time if they wish to explore the local area further, and rejoin the guide using the app at a number of joining points throughout the city centre. Designed to appeal to both residents and tourists, the tour guide app includes over 100 visitor hotspots including the University of Oxford, Radcliffe Camera, Carfax Tower and Oxford Castle.

Luke Marion, Interim Managing Director said: “The visitor economy is vital to the continued economic recovery of Oxford and continually improving our tourism services is a key part of our diversification strategy. We are proud to have partnered with VOX City Walks to integrate further technology into our tours to help make them more interesting and engaging for visitors to Oxford. It means visitors can stop off and spend more time at attractions before returning to their walking tour on-board the open-top bus tour.”

The City Sightseeing Oxford open-top bus tour takes in the city’s famous sites, covering the Oxford Castle, Christ Church College, Magdalen Bridge, Sheldonian Theatre, and Ashmolean Museum. Carfax Tower is the highest building in Oxford City Centre and provides stunning views of the city and the surrounding countryside.

The VOX City app provides commentary in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and is available to download in the Play Store or Apple store. The guided tours operate between 10.30am and 7pm daily.
