Moorcrofts get in their stride for virtual walk in aid of SpecialEffect
Moorcrofts employees are set to undertake the challenge of a virtual walk to raise funds for its charity partner, SpecialEffect, to coincide with SpecialEffect’s ‘One Special Day’.
The virtual walk will cover the distance between Moorcroft’s office in Marlow and Special Effect’s office in Charlbury. The 46-mile route will be divided into ten sections with a member of the Moorcrofts team walking approximately 5 miles each.
Moorcrofts team members include: William Pearce, Joe Hughes, Trevor Dyer, Lindsey Abbott, Chris McCormick, Mohsin Shabbir, Anita Johnson, Julia Ferguson, George Johnson; and Heather Stewart.
SpecialEffect is a charity that puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by offering bespoke technology to enable them to play video games. By levelling the playing field, they bring families and friends together, having a profoundly positive impact on therapy, confidence and rehabilitation.
Every year on ‘One Special Day’, this year on 2 October, SpecialEffect invite partners to donate sales revenue and host virtual events, promotions and livestreams – with the aim of raising £250,000 to support the charity. In 2019, over 50 games industry companies worldwide took part and since its inception in 2016, the ‘One Special Day’ campaign has raised over one million pounds. Campaigns like this one, contribute to its much-needed income as the UK-based charity doesn’t charge for any of its services and relies entirely on voluntary income.
Julia Ferguson, Head of Moorcrofts’ Charity Committee, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has meant that other planned face to face charity events have had to be cancelled so we are pleased to be able to continue to support SpecialEffect in this way. The whole team is very excited about getting to the starting line for their part of the virtual walk. Our aim is to complete the challenge by the 2nd of October and support SpecialEffect in their ‘One Special Day’ campaign.”
