Gardner Leader rises to ‘Bike Off Bake Off’ challenge
Raising over £600 for Swings & Smiles
Staff at award-winning law firm, Gardner Leader have been working up a sweat by cycling and baking – raising a total of £658 for the Berkshire charity, Swings and Smiles.
Last month 16 staff from Gardner Leader’s Newbury, Thatcham and Maidenhead offices came together at its Market Place offices in Newbury, taking turns riding stationary exercise bikes in 30-minute relays to raise funds for the Thatcham based charity. The team rode over a combined 150 miles – the equivalent of Newbury to Nottingham – whilst being cheered on by local residents, clients and staff.
The following working day, staff were then rewarded for their efforts with lots of tasty baked treats after staff set about cooking delicious cakes to go on sale for staff and the public to enjoy, and to raise further funds for Swings and Smiles.
Swings and Smiles has been Gardner Leader’s chosen charity for the last 12 months. A local charity, it provides support, friendship and a place to play for children with special needs and their families.
Sian Cook, Founder and Chair of Swings and Smiles said: “Gardner Leader has been a great support over the year. The team are so passionate about fundraising and have always done a fantastic job at coming up with different ways to raise much needed funds for our charity. Their ‘Bike Off Bake Off’ challenge has been another great success and we’re very grateful to all those that took part and donated.”
Derek Rodgers, Managing Partner at Gardner Leader adds: “The firm has been a constant presence in Newbury for over 120 years with many of our staff living in the region, so giving back to the local community is of great important to us. Supporting charities such as Swings and Smiles is one of the ways we do this.
“The team had really great fun racing against each other and showing off some exceptional baking skills. Thank you to all staff, clients and local residents that came and supported us for this event – we look forward to further fundraising in the future.”
