Oxford’s workplace parking levy: Share your views

B4 and leading law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper have today launched a short survey to test the sentiment of the Oxford business community around plans for a workplace parking levy in the city.

The levy is part of a wider series of proposals under the council’s ‘Connecting Oxford’ scheme, which aims to improve traffic flow, connectivity and reducing carbon emissions. It would involve businesses with 11 or more spaces paying between £400 and £600 per space. A final implementation date is yet to be set while the council undertakes further engagement with public stakeholders but, if given final approval, it is likely to come into force within the next 18 months.

Simon Knott, real estate partner at Penningtons Manches Cooper comments: “While this will be a great way to reduce carbon emissions, local pollution and ease traffic flow, it also comes at a time when many businesses are under extreme financial pressure caused by the effects of the pandemic and is at odds with the Government’s future drive to encourage workers back to the office and re-energise our city centres. There is also the question of whether workers will feel comfortable about taking crowded public transport on a regular basis. On the other hand, we know that many businesses and individuals are deeply committed to reducing their environmental impact and are open to considering different ways they can contribute to wider public efforts, as are we at Penningtons Manches Cooper. We think it would be useful to gain a rounded view of what local businesses think about the proposal and to share the results with B4 community.”

You can complete the survey here.

There are just four questions which should take less than 5 minutes to complete. The survey will be open until the end of June and the results will be published in July.
