Carter Jonas Budget response

R&D is the future of the UK’s booming high technology sector, and we welcome the Chancellor’s commitment to increasing investment in R&D to a record £22 billion per year.

Our two leading university towns are, after all, at the epicentre of this growth. The Budget focused significantly on “levelling up” in the North – with £400m committed for R&D at UK universities across the UK, but Oxford and Cambridge should not be forgotten.
“The confirmation of £1.1billion through the Housing Infrastructure Fund is also particularly welcomed. There was good news for the local area in the Budget, and it is encouraging that the government continues to designate the OxCam Arc as a key economic priority. The government announced plans to improve strategic planning in the OxCam Arc to ensure we have the homes needed to support future growth. This is desperately needed.

There needs to be more detail on how this will all be brought to life – and we eagerly await more news today on proposed planning reforms that will make it easier to get these projected schemes through the system.
