About the Church of St Mary the Virgin
The origin of the church is believed to be 9thcentury. The church you view today is the sole remaining complete medieval church in Shrewsbury, dating from 1150 with further additional builds of 1364 and 1470. The exceptional stained glass collection is considered to be in the top 5 in the country, with the main east window, depicting a Jesse Tree, dating from 1345. The Continental St Bernard Panels were removed for exhibition in Paris, in 1990 and then exhibited in Cologne in 2007.
